The trim levels for the latest S4 have not been confirmed yet, but if they are anything like the 2016 model, we should see two options: Premium and Prestige, as well as some intriguing options. As for exterior features, 18-inch wheels are standard while 19-inch wheels are optional, and drivers get LED running lights and taillights, auto-dimming and heating mirrors, a sunroof, and more on base models. The 2017 S4 is more relaxed-looking this year, and Audi adjusted only a few parts, such as the single-frame grille and oval tailpipes.

Engine (Power)

The 2017 Audi S4's V6 engine now weighs 31 pounds less than the 2016 model's V6 and gets up to 354 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. Its 0-to-60 mph time is an impressive 4.7 seconds, the fastest 0-to-60 time among the vehicles in its class. With or without the paddle shifters, this powertrain is very easy to get used to and a smart change that doesn't compromise on performance. This engine design is supposed to become the new standard in all Audi cars that use a V6 engine, so the S4 is an early chance to experience this jump in power.

Performance

Like last year, the S4 has a very controlled performance, similar to the Audi A4. There's much more power waiting to be unleashed, but never to the point of unsettling drivers. As if the engine specs weren't enough, the 2017 SR also earns an additional 74 lb-ft of torque at 2,000 RPM and has a new all-wheel-drive system that delivers live power adjustments to the torque on the back wheels, from 60 to 85 percent. For 2017, an eight-speed automatic replaces the manual transmission, but the shift paddles have preserved the sharp driving of its predecessor.

Interior

The S4 is pure class on the inside, with a voluptuously designed cabin and finely crafted sport seats that bend and hold against the driver for both performance tests and long trips. At base, drivers have an 8.3-inch infotainment touch screen. A 10-speaker sound system will likely be standard, similar to that seen in the 2016 S4, with a 14- or more speaker system on the higher trim levels.

Safety Features

Crash tests and safety information are not out yet for the 2017 S4, but it will most likely perform as well or better than the 2016 model, which included features such as hill start assist, side curtain air bags, and an optional rearview camera with rear parking sensors. The S4 earned five out of five stars from the NHTSA tests in 2016 and could come to a stop from 60 mph in 106 feet or less.
