Dodge offers no fewer than ten 2017 Challenger trims: SXT, SXT Plus, R/T, R/T Plus, R/T Shaker, R/T Plus Shaker, R/T Scat Pack, 392 HEMI Scat Pack Shaker, SRT 392, and the SRT Hellcat. Every trim comes with features like a five-inch touchscreen for the audio system and dual-zone automatic temperature control, but the Plus trims add upgrades like 8.4-inch displays and larger 20-inch wheels. Shaker trims come with the memorable Shaker hood, but the biggest single upgrade is definitely the SRT Hellcat, which gets its name from the uniquely powerful engine that hides under the hood.

Engine (Power)

From one end of the spectrum to the other, the 2017 Dodge Challenger offers four engines to choose from. The first is a small but respectable 3.6-liter V6 that can manage 305 horsepower and 268 pound-feet of torque. After that comes the first V8 HEMI, which displaces 5.7 liters and produces 375 horsepower along with 410 pound-feet. The third option is another V8 HEMI, but this one is a 6.4-liter engine that generates 485 horsepower and 475 pound-feet of torque. Last is the supercharged 6.2-liter Hellcat, a V8 HEMI that offers no less than 707 horsepower and 650 pound-feet.

Performance

Car buyers interested in a 2017 Challenger can choose between a traditional six-speed manual transmission or else rely on a TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic that can come with paddle shifters for manual control over the shifting. And yet even though the Challenger is a muscle car with eight cylinders under the hood, it offers 30 highway mpg thanks to fuel-saving measures like the high number of gears in the automatic, the lightweight aluminum mechanical parts, and even the electric power steering.

Interior

The 2017 Dodge Challenger may be a two-door coupe, but it still has a back row that can seat three adult passengers comfortably. That's not something you often hear about sports car, but that's the truth when it comes to the Challenger. Interior comforts are easy to come by, too, including leather seats that (on some models) you can upgrade to Nappa leather and Alcantara cloth, a heated front row, and a premium Harman Kardon sound system with 18 speakers.

Safety Features

High-performance vehicles demand high-performance safety features, which is why you'll find plenty on a 2017 Challenger. Aside from standard features like a frame built with crumple zones and a full set of air bags, the Challenger offers active safety features like the ParkView rear back-up camera, which comes standard on every model that has the 8.4-inch touchscreen. You can also get driver assistance features like a blind spot alert with rear cross-traffic detection and a forward collision warning.
