There are four main trim levels for the 2017 Ford Expedition: the XLT, Limited, King Ranch, and Platinum. There is an EL variant trim level for each, doubling the total configurations to eight. The XLT base features include analog controls on a single 4.2-inch cluster display. The Limited adds SiriusXM radio and improved comfort features, the King Ranch adds several visual enhancements to the Limited's feature set, and the Platinum includes the heavy-duty trailer towing package and all other prime features. The EL trims have a longer body and add a handy cargo management system.

Exterior features change depending on the trim. The Expedition's base wheels are 18 inches in diameter and made of bright machined aluminum. There are many wheel options, going all the way to 22-inch polished aluminum that is made standard in the Platinum. Limited and higher models have chrome side rails, while the XLT's rails are black.

Engine (Power)
All models of the 2017 Expedition use the same impressive engine: a 3.5-liter twin turbo V6 with 365 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque, plus a city/highway fuel economy of up to 15/21 miles per gallon. This hefty yet efficient engine is more than enough to push the Expedition's frame at a confident gallop. 2017 is the last year before a major redesign to the Expedition, which may include a replaced engine, so drivers should consider getting a 3.5-liter EcoBoost Expedition while they can.
Performance
The Expedition is available in either RWD or 4x4 configurations. In either case, the six-speed automatic transmission is pleasant, and the 9200-pound potential towing capacity makes it just as prepared to haul boats or trailers as a full-size pickup. For a large body-on-rails SUV, the Expedition behaves very well in highway traffic.
Interior

The 2017 Expedition finds a nice balance between tough and affordable materials made for off-roading and soft, inviting leather or cloth in the seats and other areas. The seating options span the range from reasonably upscale to lavish. Dual-zone automatic climate control is optional on the XLT, but standard on all trim levels above it. The same is true of an AC power outlet and memory settings for the driver's seat, side mirror, and adjustable pedal positions.

The base cargo area seen in non-LE Expeditions is 18.6 cubic feet. LE models, however, expand to an amazing 42.6 cubic feet, which can grow to 130.8 cubic feet with the seats down. LE Expeditions also include a cargo management system that lets drivers add multiple shelves to maximize the space.

Safety Features
Safety ratings are still incoming for the 2017 Expedition, but it is expected to perform the same as the 2016 model, which earned five stars overall from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. A rearview backup camera is standard on the base XLT model, and rain-sensing windshield wipers are included on all but the XLT.
