Trim Levels
The RAV4 has five trim levels for 2017. In order of price, they are the LE, XLE, SE, Limited, and Platinum. The LE comes with 17-inch wheels, heated mirrors, cargo roof rails, automatic headlights, a 6.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and six speakers. The XLE adds alloy wheels, a sunroof, and interior improvements.

As for the higher trims, the SE goes farther with 18-inch wheels, an adjustable liftgate, heated front seats, and other items. The Limited includes an active safety suite, remote starting, a seven-inch touch screen and full Toyota Entune phone app suite, and more. The Platinum has all of the above features as well as a hands-free liftgate, an 11-speaker audio system, and more.
Engine
The 2017 RAV4 uses a single engine among all trim levels. The 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine gets up to 176 horsepower and 172 pound-feet of torque, an even ratio that makes the model responsive at all shifting points. The RAV4 can be configured in front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive and earns up to 23 city miles per gallon and 29 highway mpg.
Performance
The RAV4 uses a six-speed automatic transmission and regardless of front-wheel and all-wheel drive the model stays firm and confident against wet roads. That said, the all-wheel-drive models come with an innovative dynamic torque control system, which constantly monitors the state of the RAV4 and the terrain to re-distribute power between the front and rear wheels. Accelerating from zero to 60 miles per hour takes about nine seconds.
Interior
The 2017 RAV4 has 38.4 cubic feet of cargo space, setting it ahead of other crossovers. Above all, the RAV4's features are quite diverse and generous for their price range. Separate from the infotainment screen, a 4.2-inch driver information display sits near the gauges in XLE or higher trim levels, and many fancier features like SofTex seating are made separate options on the lower trims.

As far as technology and software additions, each trim level gets progressively more advanced. Remote keyless entry and a rearview camera are both standard, while the XLE adds Siris Eyes Free iPhone controls, satellite radio, and HD radio along with a leather-wrapped steering wheel and dual-zone automatic climate control. The SE includes a Bird's Eye View camera system that scans the RAV4's perimeter for nearby obstacles.
Safety
The latest RAV comes with stability and traction control, passenger sensing air bags, and blind-spot additions to the driver's side mirror. All trims now include Toyota Safety Sense, an active safety package with radar cruise control, lane assist, automatic high beams, forward collision warnings, and forward collision mitigation. Limited models come with front and rear parking sensors standard, so the SUV can easily escape from a tight parallel park.
