If you're shopping for a luxury compact, the 2018 Audi A3 should earn a spot on your short list. It boasts one of the most elegant cabins in its category, copious infotainment features, and a powerful, dynamic ride.

Compare to 2017 A3
Trim Levels
The Audi A3 is available in convertible, hatchback, and sedan body styles. The latter two configurations seat up to five while the convertible can accommodate up to four passengers. The base trim, Premium, and the second trim, Premium Plus, are both available as either a sedan or convertible, as is the fully loaded Prestige trim. The hatchback plug-in hybrid comes in the same three trims.
Power
A range of excellent engine options is one of the best features of the 2018 A3. Most trims are equipped with a 2.0-liter turbo-four providing 186 horsepower, paired with front-wheel drive and a seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic. If you choose the upgraded Quattro all-wheel-drive system, you'll also enjoy 220 horses. This powertrain comes with a six-speed automatic. The S3 version comes with a specially tuned version of the upgraded turbo-four that offers 292 horses. You can also choose the new for 2018 RS performance trim, which comes with a 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine that belts out 400 horsepower, or opt for the hatchback eTron. This is a plug-in hybrid that gets 204 horsepower.
Performance
The base engine delivers some of the best fuel efficiency in this class with an EPA-estimated 26 city/35 highway miles per gallon. With the Sportback eTron, you'll get an equivalent 83 miles to the gallon and have the ability to drive up to 16 miles electric only on a full charge. The Audi A3 is lauded for its lively, energetic performance. This is especially true when you opt for the more powerful engines and/or the Quattro system, which allows the driver to toggle between several different driving modes.
Interior
New standard features for 2018 include heated front seats and dual USB ports. All trims are also equipped with leather upholstery, and the front seats are power adjustable with 12 different positions. You'll find high-quality appointments such as aluminum inlays and wood trim despite the A3's low price tag compared to other luxury compacts. Tech features include a rearview camera, 7-inch touch screen infotainment system, and a 10-speaker audio system. You'll have 12.3 cubic feet of cargo space to work with in the sedan, 13.6 in the hatchback, and 10 in convertible and all-wheel-drive models.
Safety Features
While the 2018 A3 hasn't yet undergone crash testing, it's expected to meet or exceed the stellar performance of prior years in this generation. All were designated as Top Safety Pick+ honorees by the Insurance Institute on Highway Safety and received a five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration. All trims of the 2018 Audi A3 are equipped with the brand's Pre Sense Front package, which includes braking assist and forward collision warning, and Pre Sense Basic, which prepares the car in the event of an inevitable collision. Additional standard driver assistance features across the lineup include a rearview camera and rain-sensing wipers and headlights. Drivers can opt to add adaptive cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist, and rear cross-traffic alert.
