2018 Audi S5

The S5 is the sporty sibling of the Audi A5, and like the A5 you can get one as a coupe, a cabriolet, or a sportback, a model that fits between a coupe and a traditional four-door sedan. The 2018 S5 is on the smaller end of the vehicles Audi offers, but the car has plenty to offer no matter which version you buy.

Trims (Exterior)

The 2018 Audi S5 skips the first trim available for the A5 and offers just the Premium Plus and Prestige models for all three designs. With the Premium Plus, you get all the features of the A5 Premium Plus along with the S5 upgrades: a V6 engine, diamond-stitched leather with Alcantara inserts on the seats, stronger brakes, and pneumatic side bolsters on the seats to keep you in place on high-speed corners. The Prestige combines these with the usual top-tier upgrades, including a 19-speaker Bang and Olufsen 3-D sound system, built-in navigation, and the Audi virtual cockpit.

Engine (Power)

All three versions of the 2018 S5 come with a twin-scroll turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine. It's a lot bigger than the A5's I4 engine, but it's also a lot more powerful, getting 354 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. The S5 also features an upgraded transmission for all models, an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic you can control manually thanks to the standard paddle shifters. Also standard is Audi's Quattro all-wheel drive.

Performance

The 2018 Audi S5 has a strong performance that leaves the A5 in the dust. The V6 engine gives the car a top speed of 155 mph, and it can go from 0-60 in as few as 4.4 seconds with the coupe model. The S5 also comes with 13.8-inch ventilated disc brakes in the front and 13-inch discs in the back, with six-piston calipers that can deliver a lot of stopping power all at once. Despite running on a powerful V6 engine and coming with standard all-wheel drive, the coupe and sportback models still offer 30 highway mpg.

Interior

Each of the designs of the 2018 S5 offer different amounts of space. The sportback has the most, with 35.1 inches of rear legroom and 21.8 cubic feet for cargo in the trunk, and while the cabriolet has more second-row space than the coupe, its trunk holds 9.3 cubic feet instead of the coupe's 11.6. As for interior comforts, the S5 can give you ambient LED lighting, three-zone automatic climate control, a completely digital instrument cluster, and an infotainment system with an 8.3-inch display and a touchpad control system that identifies handwriting.

Safety Features

For safety, the 2018 Audi S5 offers two front, side, knee, and curtain air bags, although the cabriolet replaces the curtains with extra roll mitigation technology. Each S5 also comes with advanced driver safety features like Audi Pre Sense City, side assist, Pre Sense Rear with rear cross-traffic assist and a vehicle exit assist. The Prestige trim also adds a top-down camera as a part of Parking System Plus.
