2018 Dodge Challenger

Two-door muscle cars are becoming more and more rare. You no longer can find a new Viper, but the Challenger fills the gap with a wide range of options and engines.

Which Challenger is right for you?

Trim Levels (Exterior)

The base-model SXT comes with an alarm, dual-zone climate control, keyless start, and cloth bucket seats. The SXT Plus version adds HD satellite radio and the option of rain-sensing wipers, plus ventilated and heated leather front seats.

The sport-tuned R/T includes the 5.7-liter Hemi V-8. Its standard equipment is similar to the SXT. The R/T Plus likewise mirrors the SXT in most ways other than the engine.

The GT comes with all-wheel drive, premium sound, rear park assist, and heated and cooled leather seats.

The T/A, SRT, and Scat Pack Shaker are powered by the 6.4-liter Hemi V-8, and each have their own signature interior and exterior details.

The SRT Hellcat gets the supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V-8 and a host of performance upgrades.

To top the cake with extra burned rubber, Dodge engineered the SRT Demon with more power than the Hellcat to be a dominant drag-strip presence.

Engine (Power)

The 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 comes standard on SXT and GT versions. For the Challenger, it's tuned to 305 horsepower and 268 pound-feet of torque. Fuel economy is 19 mpg in the city and 30 on the highway for the rear-wheel drive SXT. The all-wheel drive GT gets 18/27.

The 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 provides 375 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque with fuel economy of 15/23.

The 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 produces 485 horsepower and 475 pound-feet of torque while getting 14 in the city and 23 highway.

The Hellcat 6.2 cranks out 707 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque.

The Demon 6.2 lights up the track with 840 horsepower and 770 pound-feet of torque while burning 100-octane race fuel. It has an economy mode that dials back the horsepower to 500 for increased fuel efficiency.

Performance

Because it's what you want to know, let's talk about the Demon. It goes from 0-60 in 2.1 seconds and hits the quarter mile in 9.65 seconds at 140 mph, making it the fastest production drag car ever made.

The Demon is the only V-8 model without the choice of manual transmission. Its eight-speed transmission has an overbuilt torque converter and a bespoke TransBrake for optimum off-the-line acceleration.

All other V-8 versions can come with a six-speed stick. All models come standard with an eight-speed TorqueFlite automatic.

Interior

The Challenger has 16.2 cubic feet of trunk space. It provides at least as many choices of cloth, leather, and seating as engine choices. The Demon comes standard with only one seat.

Safety Features

Along with a full surround of advanced multistage air bags and active head restraints, you have the option of blind spot monitoring and brake assist. Stability and traction control are standard. The Challenger's high-strength steel frame is reinforced in the roof and doors to deflect force away from the occupants.

The Challenger is still the ultimate expression of the muscle coupe, available in a model for every budget and taste.

Compare to 2017 Challenger
