Trim Levels
The 2018 Ford Edge is a midsize crossover SUV with seating for five. It comes in four trim levels: SE, SEL, Titanium, and Sport. Standard exterior equipment on the base SE trim includes automatic headlights, remote locking and unlocking functionality, 18-inch alloy wheels, and rear privacy glass. Stepping up to the SEL comes with heated side mirrors, an exterior pad for keyless entry, and LED accents within the headlights. Opt for the Titanium trim and your Edge will come with a hands-free lift gate, noise-reducing glass on the front windows, and larger 19-inch wheels. At the top of the trims, the Sport boasts unique styling elements on the front and rear, 20-inch wheels, and a sport-tuned suspension. Available upgrades include a panoramic sunroof, Xenon headlights, and larger wheels.
Engine
The standard engine in the lower three trim levels is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four cylinder that pumps out 275 pound-feet of torque and 245 horsepower. The SEL and Titanium trims are available with a more powerful 3.5-liter V-6 engine, which makes 250 pound-feet of torque and 280 horsepower. With the Sport trim comes its own 2.7-liter turbocharged V-6 engine. This unit produces 350 pound-feet of torque and 315 horsepower. All three engines pair with a six-speed automatic transmission.
Performance
The SE, SEL, and Titanium trims come with front-wheel drive as standard, although you can upgrade to all-wheel drive if you're handling rough terrain or slick road conditions. The Sport is only available with all-wheel drive. With the base engine and front-wheel drive, EPA fuel economy estimates come in at 20 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway, for a combined estimate of 24 mpg. The 3.5-liter V-6 with front-wheel drive drops the estimates to 17 mpg in the city, 26 mpg on the highway, and 20 mpg combined. With the Sport trim, the estimates are similar to the other V-6 engine, although the highway estimate drops slightly to 24 mpg.
