Trim Levels
The 2018 Ford Taurus is available in four trim levels, which are SE, SEL, Limited, and SHO. With the base SE trim level, you'll get exterior equipment like automatic headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels, and an exterior keypad for keyless entry. Choose the SEL for body-color heated side mirrors with integrated puddle lamps, remote engine start, and LED daytime running lights. The most luxurious trim level is the Limited, which comes with automatic wipers, 19-inch alloy wheels, an auto-dimming driver side mirror, and automatic high-beam control. If you want a sportier model, choose the SHO, which comes with a rear spoiler, its own set of 20-inch wheels, dual exhaust tips, Xenon headlights, a sport-tuned suspension, and black exterior trim elements.
Engine
Beneath the hood of the lower three trim levels is a 3.5-liter V-6 engine, which makes 254 pound-feet of torque and 288 horsepower. It pairs with a six-speed automatic transmission for smooth shifting and improved efficiency. The sporty SHO comes equipped with a 3.5-liter turbocharged V-6 engine, which pumps out 350 pound-feet of torque and 365 horsepower.
Performance
Front-wheel drive is standard on all models except the SHO, which comes with all-wheel drive. The standard engine returns EPA estimates of 18 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway, producing a combined estimate of 21 mpg. The SHO trim level's engine drops the estimates slightly to 17 mpg city, 24 mpg highway, and 19 mpg combined.
Interior
The base model of the 2018 Ford Taurus comes equipped with standard interior features like six-way power adjustable front seats with manual lumbar adjustment, 60/40 split folding rear seat backs, a six-speaker audio system with a 4.2-inch central display screen, Bluetooth connectivity, two USB ports, Ford's Sync system with voice controls, and a driver information display. Opt for the SEL to get a leather-wrapped shift knob and steering wheel, nicer cloth and leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, satellite radio, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. The high-end Limited trim adds Ford's Sync 3 infotainment system, an 8-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, heated and ventilated power-adjustable front seats, heated second-row seats, a premium Sony system with HD radio, leather upholstery, and power-adjustable pedals and steering wheel. With the SHO trim, features include unique interior trim and leather upholstery and paddle shifters. You can also add summer performance tires, special steering tuning, and an improved stability control system with an integrated Track mode.
Safety Features
Every 2018 Taurus boasts plenty of airbags, anti-lock brakes, a rearview camera, and stability and traction control. The Limited tacks on rear cross-traffic alert and blind spot monitoring, while the available Driver Assist package includes forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and intervention, and an automated parallel parking system.
