Trim Levels
The highly capable 2018 Sierra is available in a variety of configurations coupled to varying powertrains. The models are 1500, and Heavy Duty bodies of the 2500 and 3500. The available trims for all bodies are the base, SLE, and SLT, and the Denali line offers the premium versions. Trims are available in various bed and cab configurations. The base is relatively sparse, while at the other end of the spectrum, the Denali and Denali Ultimate offers what is considered as the best in style, capability, and comfort in four-wheel drive pickup trucks.
Engine
The GMC Sierra's base is powered by a 285-hp 4.3-liter V-6 with a six-speed automatic transmission. It produces 305 pound-feet of torque. A step up to the 5.3-liter V-8 increases the power generation stats to 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. The standard transmission is six-speed automatic, with an eight-speed automatic as an option. At the top of the heap is the optional 6.2-liter V-8, churning out a leading 420 horsepower and capable of towing up to 12,500 pounds.
Performance
The 5.3-liter rumbles through acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in less than 7 seconds, while the bigger 6.2 liters V-8 shot to 60 mph in less than 6 seconds, which is quite impressive for a pickup truck. Cruising is smooth, at the 4100 rpm is required to reach peak torque. The Sierra is easy to handle and is very responsive. Riding on big 22-inch wheels, with Magnetic Ride Control, there is no lack of stability, and surface contact is constant. The switch to four-wheel drive when available is as easy as engaging a dashboard switch.
Interior comfort
Occupants should enjoy the comfort and conveniences of the nicely designed interior where the hallmarks are big switches with easy access to a lot of room. The Regular-cab Sierras can seat three on a large bench seat upholstered in vinyl or cloth. The Double and crew cabs can seat six in two rows of bench seating. Denali and HD models feature luxurious leather and heated surfaces to provide support and comfort on long trips. The cabin is quiet and spacious with lots of hidden storage space, such as the underseat holder or the large center console.
Safety
Every Sierra now has a mandated backup camera and an audible alert to its standard tire-pressure-monitoring system to indicate when the recommended tire pressure is reached. The crew cab that easily accommodates child seats is preferred for families with small children. The Enhanced Driver Alert package is standard on the Denali and optionable on SLE and SLT Employing the use of radars and sensors, operators are alerted to lane departures or forward collisions and new Sierra owners receive a free six-month OnStar subscription.
