2018 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack
The Volkswagen Golf Alltrack is a cross between an SUV and a wagon. It features a slightly raised ground clearance, and all-wheel drive comes standard. The Alltrack was a new model for 2017, so for the 2018 model year, it received a few upgrades. These include a new infotainment system on the inside, some exterior enhancements, and more active safety systems. Here is what you need to know about the 2018 Golf Alltrack.

Compare to 2017 Golf Alltrack
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The Alltrack has a 6.9-inch ground clearance, so it sits up higher than the rest of the Golf models. It comes in three different trims starting with the base level S. This has 17-inch wheels, LED fog lights and taillights, roof rails, and power folding side mirrors with integrated turn signals. Bump up to the SE to add a power tilting and sliding panoramic sunroof and heated windshield wiper nozzles, or choose the top-level SEL trim, which comes with all of the exterior features of the S and SE along with fog lights and 18-inch Canyon alloy wheels.
Engine
All three if the Alltrack models come with a 1.8-liter turbo four-cylinder engine that produces 170 horsepower and 199 pound-feet of torque. The Volkswagen 4Motion all-wheel-drive system is also standard along with a 6-speed manual transmission, but you also have the option to change this to a six-speed automatic.
Performance
The high ground clearance of the Alltrack doesn't alter its agility and makes it more capable on rough and off-road terrain. The all-wheel-drive system gives this SUV the extra utility you want for weekend adventures, but it still has a smooth on-road ride for your daily commute to work. The fuel economy is good for its class with the manual transmission delivering 22 miles per gallon in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. The automatic brings these numbers to 22 miles per gallon in the city and 25 mpg on the highway.
Interior
Inside, the base S trim comes with a 6.5-inch display with physical buttons around the screen for controlling the audio and climate. The two higher trims get the new MIB II infotainment system, which comes with an 8-inch touch-screen display. There is plenty of space both for the front seat passengers and the ones in the back, but the cargo space is where this vehicle shines. Behind the rear seats you'll find over 30 cubic feet of space, and if you fold the seats down, it opens up 66.5 cubic feet of cargo space.
Safety Features
All the Alltrack models come standard with a rearview camera along with stability control and a full suite of air bags. Bump up to the SE for a blind-spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert and pedestrian detection, or choose the SEL for added safety features. You can get adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, a lane keep assist system and parking sensors as part of an available package. The top-level SEL trim also has the option for a parking assist system.
