The GMC Sierra is available in 1500, 2500HD, or 3500HD model branches, with each one being successively larger and stronger. At this time, the 2017 Sierra 1500 is available, while the 2017 2500HD and 2017 3500HD are arriving soon. In all cases, the trim levels are broken down in the same way: the base Sierra, SLE, SLT, and Denali. Drivers also choose from three different cab styles, three different bed lengths, and four-wheel drive or two-wheel drive. Like other extra-large trucks, the Sierra 3500HD has a choice between single or double rear wheels.

The Sierra now comes with a set of tri-mode power steps that make loading and unloading gear from the bed easier. Two metallic exterior colors were added: Dark Slate and Pepperdust. The Denali trim has signature accents and sculpting, and also includes LED lighting all over, from headlights to the cargo box. The Denali also gets automatic traffic-detecting high-beams. The detection system turns the high-beams on or off based on whether a vehicle going the opposite way would be blinded or distracted.

Engine (Power)
Focusing on the available 2017 1500, the Sierra offers three engines. The smallest is a 4.3-liter V6 with 285 horsepower, 385 pound-feet of torque, and is compatible with E-85 ethanol. The middle engine is a 5.3-liter V8 with 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, with over 300 pound-feet of torque at lower RPM. The biggest engine is a 6.2-liter V8 with 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.
Performance
The 2017 Sierra 1500 has a crafted, responsive ride that GMC fans have come to expect. The powertrain behavior changes considerably depending on the engine chosen, but each one feels perfect for different drivers. New augmentations include a capless fuel fill system, which will appear across all 2017 Sierra models as they arrive. New P265/65R18 all-season tires are made standard as well.
Interior

The standard Sierra 1500 keeps the cabin simple, with power windows, climate control, and other common features. However, it's all held within an upscale cabin that challenges the stereotypes of rugged pickup trucks. Higher trims can add everything from a leather-wrapped steering wheel to an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system with HD radio.

If you're concerned about the 6.2-liter V8 for its noise, fear not, because the SLT trim level has an optional active noise cancellation system that sends antagonizing sound waves back toward the engine, cancelling out some of its mighty roar to help you hear the radio or conversations.

Safety Features
The standard 2017 Sierra 1500 comes with side and head curtain air bags to improve occupant safety against t-bone impacts. A tire-pressure monitoring system alerts the driver if they should refill any of their tires, a feature not seen in base models of other current trucks. A rearview camera is optional, and higher trims add active security such as blind-spot warnings.
