The 2017 Ford Taurus comes in four trim levels. The first is the SE, which comes standard with a 3.5-liter V6 engine, Ford's SYNC infotainment system, and MyKey, which lets you set things like the car's speed limit and audio settings based on which driver starts the car. The SEL trim adds dual-zone automatic climate control and a reverse sensing system, and the Limited offers heated and cooled front seats, SYNC 3, and a 12-speaker Sony audio system. Last is the performance-oriented SHO trim, which upgrades the engine to a 3.5-liter turbo, comes standard with all-wheel drive, and offers 20-inch wheels.

Engine (Power)

The standard engine on most trims of the 2017 Taurus is a 3.5-liter V6 that gets 288 horsepower and 254 pound-feet of torque. However, any model can upgrade to a turbocharged 2.0-liter I4 EcoBoost engine that offers a comparable 240 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque in exchange for improving the mileage from a combined 21 mpg to 23 mpg. However, the SHO trim comes with a 3.5-liter turbo V6, getting a full 365 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. Each engine also comes with a six-speed SelectShift automatic transmission, with the SHO model adding paddle shifters.

Performance

The 2017 Ford Taurus SHO trim is the head of the class when it comes to performance. Not only does it offer the best engine available, it also comes standard with all-wheel drive for better traction and a sport-tuned suspension. Every Taurus model also comes with Curve Control, which can sense if you're going too fast into a curve and will automatically slow down the car to make a spinout less likely. At the same time, the Taurus is still a full-size sedan, which means it also comes with a more quiet and comfortable ride than what you'd get out of a sports car.

Interior

The 2017 Taurus comes with a truly impressive trunk that can hold up to 20.1 cubic feet of cargo, making it the sector leader in trunk space. For interior comforts, leather seats are available in the SEL trim, and the Limited and SHO both come with 10-way adjustable driver and front passenger seats. They also come with heated seats in both rows and ventilation for the front row.

Safety Features

Aside from the usual safety features like air bags and LATCH child seat anchors, the 2017 Ford Taurus also comes with AdvanceTrac with electronic stability control, a system that monitors for skidding and can adjust torque and brake strength to get your vehicle back under control as fast as possible. You can also pick up driver assistance features like Active Park Assist, a blind spot information system, and a lane-keeping system.
