The 2017 GMC Savana has ample configuration options, so the first step is deciding what you need to accommodate your specific situation. There are three types of vans for this model year, including the Cargo Van, Passenger Van, and Cutaway. Once you've picked the right one, there are two different wheelbases, as well the 2500 or 3500, which are the two different sizes.

The Savana Passenger Van comes in two trims: the base model 1LS and the 1LT. Even at the entry level, it still comes loaded with exterior amenities such as 16-inch steel wheels, daytime running lamps, black bumpers, halogen headlamps, and a swing-out passenger door. The 1LT offers even more alluring aesthetics, thanks to specs such as a chrome grille, chrome bumpers, and chrome door handles.

There is only one trim on the Savana Cargo Van, but it's full of things to get the job done right. Here, you'll find 16-inch steel wheels, tinted windows to keep your equipment out of sight, and variable intermittent windshield wipers.

Finally, the Savana Cutaway makes business easier with a number of upfits (body styles). This includes a box truck, utility truck, the high-cube upfit, or no upfit that's suitable for hauling.

Engine (Power)

This year, the Savana drops its 6.6-liter, DuraMax turbo diesel option, but it still affords to stellar gasoline-powered choices. The standard engine on all trims and body styles is a powerful 4.8-liter, Vortec V8 engine that pumps out 285 horsepower and up to 295 pound-feet of torque. The other choice is a 6.0-liter, Vortec V8 that ups the output to 342 horsepower and 373 pound-feet of torque.

Performance

With the smaller engine at the helm, the Savana goes up to 17 miles per gallon on the highway and 11 mpg in the city. If you opt for the 6.0-liter, these numbers fall only slightly to 15 mpg on the highway and 10 mpg in the city.

These numbers aren't mind-blowing, but then again, the Savana is made for work. That's why the Savana Cargo Van can tow up to 10,000 pounds while also handling a payload of nearly 4,200 pounds, If you're searching for a passenger option, the Passenger Van accommodates up to 12 or 15 people.

Interior

Inside, the GMC Savana doesn't skimp on the extras. The 1LS trim comes equipped with an AM/FM stereo with MP3 capabilities, power locks and windows, and OnStar with 4G LTE Wi-Fi. The 1LT tacks on remote keyless entry, a rear auxiliary heater, and cruise control.

If that's not enough options to suit you, there are several additional packages to satisfy.

Safety Features

Due to its size, the GMC Savana doesn't receive crash tests from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Amenities include a tire-pressure monitoring system, a stability control system, rear park assist, and a rear vision camera.
