For the 2017 model year, the Nissan Maxima five-passenger midsize sedan is available in five trims. These include the base S, the SV, the SL, the sporty SR, and the ultimate Platinum top-of-the-line model. However, just because the S trim is the base model does not mean it isn't well-equipped. In fact, the S trim comes with dual-zone automatic climate controls, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, power front seats, Bluetooth connectivity, an eight-speaker sound system with a six-disc CD changer, and satellite radio.
Engine (Power)
All 2017 Nissan Maxima trims come with the same engine, which is more than powerful enough for even the most discerning of drivers. This engine is a 3.5-liter V6 that is connected to a Nissan CVT (continuously variable transmission) and front-wheel drive. The engine boasts 300 horsepower and delivers a full 261 lb-ft of torque for exceptional performance and fuel economy.
Performance
Under testing, the 2017 Maxima Platinum went from 0 to 60 miles per hour in only 6.1 seconds. This acceleration rating is above average for all cars in the midsize sedan class that are equipped with a similar sized V6 engine. According to the latest figures from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Maxima offers drivers a combined fuel economy rating of 25 miles per gallon. This breaks down into 21 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the open road. Here again, these figures are above average for this class of vehicle.
Interior
While the 2017 Maxima might not wear a luxury brand badge, you would never know it from the inside, where you will be surrounded by a wealth of luxurious top-of-the-line materials. The Maxima features Nissan's NASA-inspired "Zero Gravity" seats up front that are fully supportive and made to keep you firmly in place while driving. The bin just in front of the shifter features a highly convenient pair of USB ports and room for most currently available smartphones to sit vertically, making them easier to see and operate.
Safety Features
The 2017 Nissan Maxima comes loaded with a slew of standard safety features, including all-wheel anti-lock brakes, electronic traction and stability controls, a wealth of air bags, and a standard rearview camera. All models above the base SL model also come with rear cross traffic alerting, blind-spot monitoring, and forward collision monitoring with automatic braking. The Platinum model also offers a 360-degree parking camera, driver drowsiness alerting, and Nissan Connect. This system adds automatic collision notification, emergency calling, remote starting, and stolen vehicle location.
