The Jetta comes with four trim levels: S, SE, SEL, and GLI. All models have front-wheel drive, and every trim level comes standard with chrome window trim and darkened taillights aside from the GLI, which has LED taillights instead. Appearance-wise, the GLI differs the most due to its rear spoiler, red brake calipers, and chrome grille accents.

There are nine exterior color options, including Dark Bronze Metallic, White Silver, and Silk Blue Metallic.
Engine
There are three available engines. The S and SE models have a 1.4-liter inline four-cylinder 16V turbocharged engine that provides 150 horsepower and a maximum torque of 184 pound-feet. The SEL trim comes with a 1.8-liter inline four-cylinder 16V turbocharged engine, providing 170 horsepower and a maximum torque of 184 pound-feet.

Not surprisingly, the GLI is the most powerful of all. It has a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder 16V turbocharged engine that provides 210 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque.
Performance
Simply put, the 2017 Jetta is fun to drive. It has excellent precision, which is made possible by the four-corner independent suspension and the standard Electronic Stability Control system. The six-speed DSG performance transmission makes it easy to shift gears smoothly and accelerate quickly.

All models are fuel-efficient. The base models for S and SE provide an estimated EPA of 28 mpg for the city and 40 mpg for the highway, the SEL gives 25 mpg for the city and 35 mpg for the highway, and the GLI provides 23 mpg for the city and 33 mpg for the highway.
Interior
All trim levels come standard with a multi-function trip computer and Bluetooth technology with audio streaming. The SE and higher trim levels have added features, such as Volkswagen Car-Net App-Connect and keyless access.

The S comes standard with Black and Palladium Gray cloth seating, while all other trim levels have V-Tex leatherette seating that's available in Titan Black and Cornsilk Beige. As for the interior trim, it differs for each model. It's Matte Chrome in the S and SE, Textured Gloss Black in the SEL, and Carbonoptik in the GLI.
Safety
Volkswagen once again earns a 5-Star Safety Rating from NHTSA, this time for the 2017 Jetta. A safety cage is built into the vehicle and high-strength steel is strategically placed in certain exterior body panels.

All trim levels include various safety features, such as the Automatic Post-Collision Braking System, which brakes the car for you after an accident to prevent any further damage. The Intelligent Crash Response System turns on the interior lights and the hazard lights after an accident. There are also seven stability enhancing systems, such as Electronic Brake-pressure Distribution and Anti-Slip Regulation.
