2018 Dodge Demon
The 2018 Dodge Demon has a wicked-sounding name, but it is wicked in an entirely different sense. Simply put, this angular machine is wicked fast. Its classic styling and moniker pay homage to the days when muscle cars ruled the streets. Dodge was king of gritty American muscle then, and it continues its reign today with the latest iteration of the Demon.
Trim Levels
Technically, the Demon is a trim level. Dodge takes its formidable Challenger model, ups the ante to street racing and technology (SRT), then pushes the envelope with the street-legal drag racer Demon. Thus, this beast's full name is the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon. The Demon's wide stance is menacing, and its Air-Grabber hood scoop is functional as well as edgy. You can choose from all 14 standard Challenger colors, and you can have the hood, roof, and deck lid painted black satin to contrast those eye-catching paint schemes.
Engine
The 2018 Demon is the fastest production car to advance from zero to 100 on the quarter mile, besting a $1.6 million Bugatti. Clearly, it does not get its power with a mere hamster wheel under the hood. Dodge applies more than two dozen enhancements to its storied Hellcat engine and yields the supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V-8 power plant under the Demon's hood that produces 840 horsepower and 770 pound-feet of torque. The torque reserve launch system manages power for improved launch times off the starting line.
Performance
The Demon is a drag racer, and Dodge has equipped it to be race-ready, down to its drag radial tires. This car's accolades testify to its performance. It produces the highest G-force (1.8) by a production car accelerating from zero to 60. The Demon was the first production car to pop a wheelie, and it set a world record, going zero to 60 in a blistering 2.3 seconds. Racers crave cooler engines, lighter weight, and better grip on the launch pad. Non-production vehicles chip away at this, sometimes never achieving perfection. The Demon, however, is perfect from the factory. Its engine runs 30 degrees cooler than a Hellcat, and it weighs 200 pounds less than a typical Challenger due to lighter-weight wheels, brakes, seats, and audio system. The TransBrake system locks the transmission's output shaft for better rear wheel torque at launch.
Interior
Obviously, the 2018 Dodge Demon is no grocery-getter, also evidenced by the absent passenger and rear seats. They can be purchased for $1 each, but they are intentionally missing to reduce overall weight. Truly a driver's car in every sense of the phrase. The dark brushed interior and suede steering wheel are striking, but the interior is singly focused on racing. A four-point safety harness is also available.
Safety Features
If you are purchasing a Demon to race, let us be honest. You are not looking for lane change cameras or parallel parking assistance. However, the Demon takes advantage of Dodge's Uconnect infotainment system, except with an obvious racing focus. The key to safety with the Demon is in how you use it. Never carry passengers if equipped with one seat. Never race it in NHRA events, as the sanctioning body requires roll cages and other safety features the Demon does not possess. Finally, remember the street is not the strip. Please follow all laws and posted speed limits.
