2018 Dodge Journey
Specially designed to provide great utility and value for money, the Dodge Journey is the least expensive mid-size crossover with three rows of seats. This SUV is suitable for a wide range of purposes, from daily commuting and long-distance travel to hauling passengers and cargo. Here's a look at the 2018 Dodge Journey.
Trim Levels
The 2018 Journey is available in four trim levels: the base SE, SXT, Crossroad, and GT. This SUV has a simple, well-balanced styling that suits its down-to-earth personality. At its most basic, this vehicle is a great option for those who prefer less attention on the road. However, if you want to turn some heads, you can spice things up by moving up the trim ladder or getting one of the few appearance packages available. The SXT adds fog lights, LED taillights, alloy wheels, and body-color side mirrors, while the Crossroad is the most eye-catching and rugged-looking trim with an unpainted body kit and chrome roof rails. The SE, SXT, and GT get Dodge's popular Blacktop styling option, which blacks out the grille, mirror caps, wheels, roof rails, and other features.
Engine
The new Journey offers two engine options. All models except the GT come standard with a 2.4-liter inline-four engine that serves up 173 hp. This engine works with a four-speed automatic transmission and FWD. A more powerful 3.6-liter V6 engine with 283 hp is standard on the GT and available on the other trims. It's teamed with a six-speed automatic transmission and AWD. When it is equipped with the base engine, the Journey has fuel economy ratings of 19/25 mpg (city/highway). With the V-6, it manages 17/25 mpg.
Performance
Despite its size and weight, the 2018 Dodge Journey is relatively nimble, handling curvy roads, corners, and cramped quarters with ease. It also rides smoothly over rough surfaces. Its hydraulic power steering centers well and feels natural on the highway. The V-6 engine gives the SUV enough power for day-to-day driving and light towing. The Journey has a towing capacity of 2,500 pounds.
Interior
The Journey can seat seven people comfortably. The front seats are especially spacious, comfortable, and supportive, while the second-row seats are roomy enough to accommodate most adults. As for cargo space, the SUV offers slightly less than 11 cubic feet behind the third row of seats and 67.6 cubic feet with the second and third rows folded down. All trim levels come standard with a 4.3-inch touch-screen Uconnect infotainment system, six-speaker audio system, and a USB port. Optional features include a tri-zone automatic climate control system, Bluetooth, satellite radio, six-speaker Alpine audio system, and an upgraded 8.4-inch touch-screen Uconnect system.
Safety Features
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the 2018 Dodge Journey a four-star rating in frontal collision and rollover tests. The SUV is equipped with a variety of airbags to reduce collision impact and LATCH points in the second row to keep children safe. It also comes with an optional backup camera that includes rear parking sensors.
