Trim Levels
The 2018 Focus is offered in six trim levels; the base S, SE, SEL, Titanium, ST, and RS. It also has a plug-in electric model. All trims come in sedan and hatchback body styles, except the ST, RS, and Electric, which are all hatchbacks. One thing that makes the Focus stand out is that it isn't plain and boring the way economy cars typically are. While it may look simple from the front, it has a dramatic side profile with a beautiful blend of curves and creases. Four new metallic colors are available for the 2018 model year: Blue, Lightning Blue, Hot Pepper Red, and Outrageous Green.
Engine
The base engine of the 2018 Ford Focus is a 2.0-liter inline-four that generates 140 hp. This engine works with FWD and a five-speed manual, six-speed dual-clutch, or six-speed automatic transmission. If you want better fuel efficiency, you can opt for the 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine that produces 123 hp. For better performance, choose the ST or RS. The ST is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine that puts out 240 hp and teams with a six-speed manual transmission and FWD. With this combo, it can make zero to 60 mph in 6.3 seconds and achieve a top speed of 155 mph. The RS uses a 2.3-liter turbo-four engine that sends 350 hp to all wheels. This engine pairs with a six-speed manual transmission.
Performance
A sharp, well-balanced chassis and quick steering make the Focus one of the best-handling cars in its class. The car delivers a composed ride at both low and high speeds, and around corners. Its strut and multi-link suspension enables it to ride smoothly over bumps and uneven surfaces. However, the highlight of the Focus is its fuel efficiency. The three-cylinder engine is the most frugal, getting 30/40 mpg (city/highway) with the six-speed manual transmission. The four-cylinder engine gets 26/38 mpg, while the ST and RS achieve 22/30 mpg and 19/26 mpg respectively.
Interior
The 2018 Focus has a well-designed and comfortable cabin with supportive seats and easy-to-use controls. The Titanium trim offers well-formed sport seats, better back support, and more leg cushioning for better comfort during long rides. As for features, the base model comes with steering-wheel audio controls, AM/FM/CD audio, and Bluetooth connectivity. Starting from the SE, all trims get MyKey and the SYNC 3 infotainment system. The Titanium tops things off with leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, and HD radio.
Safety Features
The 2018 Ford Focus received a five-star rating for overall crash safety from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It comes standard with front and side air bags and a rearview camera. Optional features include active lane control and blind-spot monitoring.
