2018 Kia Optima
The Kia Optima is a classic example of what a midsize sedan can offer. It also demonstrates just how far Kia has come over the last few years. While Kia's designs originally lagged far behind what other companies could offer, the 2018 model is a perfectly good choice for anyone in the market for a midsize vehicle. See it today at Leith Autopark Kia in Wendell near Raleigh, Knightdale, Zebulon and Rocky Mount.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The 2018 Optima has five trims to choose from. The list starts with the LX, a basic model with essential features like a six-speed automatic transmission, heated mirrors, and a 7-inch touch-screen display with UVO. Next is the S trim, a model with some sporty design elements like a new front and rear fascia, along with a rear spoiler and LED fog lights, all for just $1,000 more than the LX. The LX 1.6T is the only trim with a turbo engine and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, and the EX offers luxury features like an available 8-inch touch screen and a 10-speaker Harman Kardon system. The last trim is the SX, and it doubles down on sporty looks with a second new engine and a sport-tuned suspension.
Engine (Power)
The 2018 Kia Optima LX, S, and EX all use the same engine: a basic 2.4-liter I4 that gets the job done with 185 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque. The turbo of the LX 1.6T isn't more powerful, but it does offer 178 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque with much less engine weight. The engine in the SX is also turbocharged, a 2.0-liter model that delivers up to 245 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. The first engine can get as much as 25 city and 36 highway mpg, but the lightweight second engine offers buyers 28/37 mpg. Still, the SX engine does lose some efficiency for speed, giving it 22/31 mpg.
Performance
While the 2018 Optima has two sporty trims, the sedan still offers a solid and composed handling rather than something quick or nimble. On the other hand, both transmissions have a Sportmatic mode for manual shifting, and all five trims come with a drive mode selector: normal, eco, and sport. So while you can take advantage of the Optima's above-average fuel efficiency, you can also switch to sport and really have some fun.
Interior
The 2018 Kia Optima comes with a generous trunk that holds 15.9 cubic feet, and that's just for starters. Depending on the trim and the packages you choose, you can get interior features like Nappa leather seats, a 12-way adjustable driver's seat, and dual-zone automatic climate control.
Safety Features
Essential safety features on the 2018 Optima include seven air bags, electronic stability control and vehicle stability management, and four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes. If you want smarter safety systems on your Optima, available packages for the EX and SX trims can get you features like autonomous emergency braking, a lane departure warning system, a forward collision warning system, and advanced smart cruise control, a feature that slows you automatically if you get too close to the car in front of you.
Compare to 2017 Optima
