2018 Nissan Altima
The Altima is a family-friendly mid-size sedan with room for up to five passengers. For 2018, Nissan made some advanced safety systems standard across all trims, and they added Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Some of the packages have also shifted around the trim levels, and Nissan discontinued the base 25 model along with the 3.5 SR model. Here are some details about the 2018 Nissan Altima.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The Altima comes in five different trim levels. The base level 2.5 S comes with 16-inch steel wheels, while a bump up to the sporty 2.5 SR gets you 18-inch alloy wheels, a rear spoiler, and fog lights This trim also comes with daytime running lights and a sport-tuned suspension. The 2.5 SV comes standard with 17-inch alloy wheels and upgrades to LED daytime running lights. Step up again to the 2.5 SL for LED headlights and power-folding side mirrors. The top-level 3.5 SL has 18-inch wheels, and it adds a sunroof and heated mirrors.
Engine
All the trims except for the 3.5 SL come with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 179 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque. These models all come with front-wheel drive, and they get a continuously automatic transmission. The 3.5 SL has a more powerful 3.5-liter V-6 engine. This produces 270 horsepower and 251 pound-feet of torque, and it comes with the same CVT and front-wheel drive.
Performance
The Altima delivers a smooth ride and comfortable handling, and if you bump up to the 3.5 SL, the larger engine improves acceleration and provides more power for passing when driving on the highway. This sedan is also fuel efficient with the four-cylinder delivering 27 miles per gallon in the city and 39 mpg on the highway, and the V-6 getting 22 miles per gallon in the city and 32 mpg on the highway.
Interior
The Altima's cabin focuses on comfort and convenience with plenty of headroom and legroom both in the front and back. The front seats feature Nissan's zero-gravity design inspired by NASA for the ultimate in comfort even on longer road trips. The base model S has Bluetooth, a USB port, and a 5-inch display screen. The 2.5 SV adds satellite radio, and the SL adds leather upholstery. If you bump up to the 3.5 SL, you'll get a 7-inch touch screen display along with a navigation system and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. In the trunk, there is 15.4 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats up, and the seats fold down to create even more space when you need it.
Safety Features
New for 2018, all the trims come standard with forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking. All models also get a rearview camera and a full suite of air bags. The 2.5 SV model adds a blind-spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert, and the 3.5 SL comes with the NissanConnect emergency telematics system along with adaptive cruise control. The 2018 Nissan Altima received a five-star safety rating from the NHTSA.
