Trim Levels
For 2018, the Nissan Maxima has six trim levels to choose from. Starting with the S, the Maxima comes standard with a Sport Mode, NissanConnect with Navigation, and a remote engine starter. On the SV you'll get parking sonar for the front and rear and heated leather seats, and the SL trim adds an 11-speaker sound system by Bose and a dual-panel panoramic sunroof. The SR and SR Midnight Edition have sporty features like 19-inch wheels and a sport suspension, and the Midnight Edition gives you appearance changes like black wheels and a black spoiler. The top trim is the Platinum, and it offers top features like the Around View Monitor, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and premium leather seats.
Engine
Sitting under the hood of every 2018 Maxima is a 3.5-liter V-6 that provides 300 horsepower and 261 pound-feet of torque. It comes with Nissan's advanced Xtronic CVT, an advanced transmission design that offers the fuel savings of a CVT but with artificial shift points that get rid of the constant droning noise that so many drivers dislike about earlier CVT designs. So not only do you get a smooth and efficient acceleration, you also get 21 city and 30 highway mpg, excellent figures for a full-size sedan with a six-cylinder engine.
Performance
Comfort and luxury are the name of the game when it comes to full-size cars, and the 2018 Nissan Maxima offers plenty of both on every trim. And if drivers should want a little excitement from their Maxima, they can push the Sport Mode button to enjoy sharper (though less efficient) acceleration. The SR trims offer extra features for an even better performance, like a sport transmission that responds better to sharp turns and paddle shifters that put the CVT's virtual gears at your fingertips.
Interior
The 2018 Maxima is well stocked with luxury features. Active Noise Cancellation is an available feature that keeps things like engine and wind noise from penetrating the cabin, and the Platinum has fully climate-controlled front seats that can heat up or cool down at the touch of a button. The Maxima also carries high-tech features like a 7-inch Advanced Drive-Assist Display that lets you customize the instrument cluster and an 8-inch multitouch screen for the infotainment system.
Safety Features
Safety on the 2018 Nissan Maxima starts with the Vehicle Dynamic Control with Traction Control System, six air bags, and now a forward collision warning with emergency automatic braking. The top trim levels add even more driver assistance features, including systems like Intelligent Cruise Control and a Blind Spot Warning. On the Platinum, you can also get the Driver Attention Alert.
