Trim Levels
The 2018 Tacoma is offered in three trim levels: the base SR, TRD, and Limited. There are also sub-trims available for the SR and TRD, including the SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Pro, and TRD Off-Road. In addition, the truck comes in two body styles and two bed lengths. The Tacoma is easily recognizable with the most truck-like appearance in its class. It looks brawny and aggressive with its squared-off body, narrow headlights, large hexagonal grille, and bulging hood and fenders. It has undergone minimal styling modifications for 2018. The SR has a mildly-restyled grille, while the TRD gets a darker mesh grille. The Limited distinguishes itself with a satin chrome grille.
Engine
Similar to its predecessor, the new Tacoma offers two engine options. The standard engine is a 2.7-liter four-cylinder that puts out 159 hp and teams with a six-speed automatic transmission and RWD or 4WD. If you opt for the 4WD, you can also choose a five-speed manual transmission. The optional engine is a 3.5-liter V6 that makes 278 hp. It comes with the same standard transmission and drivetrain options as the base engine, but it offers a six-speed manual with 4WD. Equipped with the V6 engine, six-speed manual, and 4WD, the Tacoma can sprint from zero to 60 mph in 7.7 seconds. The truck can tow up to 6,800 pounds and haul up to 1,620 pounds.
Performance
The Toyota Tacoma delivers a relatively smooth and stable ride on the pavement. It can also be outfitted for more competent cruising on the highway. If you're planning to drive the truck on paved roads frequently, it's recommended that you get the Limited. This trim is quieter and handles significantly better than the off-road models. The Tacoma truly shines in the dirt, tackling rough back roads and trails with ease. The best trims for off-roading are the TRD Off-Road and the Pro. The latter has an upgraded suspension that helps maintain body control and composure over rough terrain.
Interior
The 2018 Tacoma features a well-designed and comfortable cabin. It comes standard with a comfortable driver's seat with lumbar support and adjustable front passenger's seat. The TRD Pro has black leather seats with red stitching, while the Limited gets hickory leather. Heated seats are available as an option. As for tech features, the Tacoma offers the Entune infotainment system with a touchscreen display, voice command, USB port, and Bluetooth connectivity as standard equipment.
Safety Features
The 2018 Toyota Tacoma stands out from its rival with a long list of standard safety features. These include a rearview camera, automatic high beams, forward-collision alert, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane-departure alert. For better safety, you can opt for rear cross-traffic alert and rear parking sensors.
