Trim Levels (Exterior)
There are four trim levels available with the Escape. The base S starts you off with 17-inch steel wheels, or you can upgrade to alloy wheels. Stepping up to the SE gets you more features such as chrome exterior trim elements, painted body-color door handles, 17-inch alloy wheels, and tinted rear windows. Choose the SEL for 18-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, heated side exterior mirrors, a power liftgate, and the option for a hands-free power liftgate. A panoramic sunroof is also optional for the SEL. The top-level Titanium comes with LED headlights and LED fog lights, roof rails, chrome exterior trim elements, and the hands-free liftgate.
Engine (Power)
The base engine for the 2022 Escape is a 1.5-liter three-cylinder gas engine that puts out 181 horsepower and generates 190 pound-feet of torque. The Titanium comes with a 2.5-liter hybrid powertrain that delivers 200 horsepower, and this setup is optional for the SE and SEL. A 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder gas engine is available for the SEL and Titanium, delivering 250 horsepower.
Performance
The engines deliver plenty of power for the small Escape, and all but the turbo four-cylinder offer both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. Choosing a model with the 2.0-liter four-cylinder means you'll get all-wheel drive. If fuel efficiency is what you are after, then the hybrid setup is the best option. It can travel up to 37 miles on pure electric power.
Interior
There's room for five in the Escape, with comfortable seats in both rows. A height-adjustable driver's seat comes standard, but moving up to the SE trim opens up the availability of more options. You can get heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, automatic climate control, and a power-adjustable driver's seat. Stepping up again to the SEL makes most of these options standard.
Safety Features
Every 2022 Escape comes with advanced driver aids. Even the base S has a forward collision mitigation system, a blind-spot monitor, and lane-departure warning with mitigation. The SE and SEL offer the Co-Pilot360 Assist+ Package as an option. It comes with adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and an evasive steering assist system that works with the forward collision-mitigation system to help avoid collisions. Choose the Titanium trim, and the Co-Pilot Assist+ will come standard, and you'll get the option to add a head-up display and an automated parking system.
