2023 Mercedes-Benz GLS
The Mercedes-Benz GLS is an upscale SUV designed to carry people in style. The 2023 GLS gets a new strong V-8 engine and will continue to feature the most luxurious and spacious cabin you can get in a Mercedes SUV. The latest model will carry over mostly unchanged for 2023, other than some new color changes and trim shifting. Take a look at some of the details for the 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLS.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The GLS comes in four trims: GLS 450, GLS 580, AMG GLS 63, and the ultra-luxurious Maybach GLS 600. The base GLS 450 comes with 20-inch alloy wheels, a hands-free liftgate, power-folding side exterior mirrors, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. It also has a sunroof. The GLS 580 comes with 21-inch alloy wheels, illuminated running boards, and soft-close doors. The optional Off-Road Package adds underbody skid plates, and you can get a panoramic sunroof for a spectacular view.
Engine (Power)
The big news for the 2023 GLS is the return of the V-8 engine. The base powertrain for the GLS 450 is now a 3.0-liter turbo six-cylinder with a mild hybrid system that puts out 362 horsepower. The rest of the lineup gets a 4.0-liter twin-turbo electrified V-8 that starts by generating 483 horsepower but can get up to 600 horsepower under the hood of the AMG GLS 63.
Performance
The twin-turbo V-8 packs a punch no matter which hood it's under. The GLS 450 with the V-6 will accelerate to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds, but if you upgrade to the GLS 580, it will get there even quicker. The V-8 will also shut off the gas engine at high speed and run entirely on electric power. The optional E-Active Body Control system upgrades the suspension that will lean the GLS into turns to keep passengers more comfortable.
Interior
The GLS has three rows of seats and seating for anywhere from four to seven, depending on which trim you have. The cabin comes filled with luxury features and amenities, including the available massaging front and second-row seats. All but the Maybach have 17.4 cubic feet of cargo space behind all the seats, and this can expand to 84 cubic feet. Supple leather upholstery comes in the GLS 580, along with five-zone automatic climate control and multi-contour seats.
Technology features include a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, navigation, natural language voice control, and wireless charging. All models have the MBUX infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and nine USB ports.

Safety Features
Every 2023 GLS has a long list of standard safety systems. This includes a forward collision warning system with automatic braking, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, and an automated parking system. The AMG GLS 63 adds a blind-spot intervention system that will steer the SUV back into its lane if needed to avoid a collision. The optional Driver Assistance Package Plus adds adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, evasive steering assist, and front cross-traffic alert.
