Trim Levels (Exterior)
The 2022 BMW 3 Series is a small luxury sedan that comes in three main trim levels, which are 330i, 330e, and M340i. The M3 is a performance-focused version that is often reviewed and assessed separately than the other three trims. From the outside, the 2022 BMW 3 Series showcases sporty styling elements, including an aggressive front end with the traditional split grille, bold wheels, and sleek curves. Standard exterior equipment on the 330i includes 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, a sunroof, and eye-catching accents. The 330e shares many styling features with the 330i, as most of its changes are found beneath the hood. The top M340i boasts larger 19-inch wheels, an aerodynamic body kit, a sport-tuned suspension, upgraded brakes, and a sport differential that enhances its traction. Additional exterior options include adaptive headlights and a few styling enhancements.
Engine (Power)
Choose the base 330i and your BMW 3 Series will come with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that makes 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The 330e is a plug-in hybrid powertrain, which includes the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine and an electric motor. The combined output is 288 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. The M340i has a more powerful 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six rated at 385 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque.
All three engine options pair with an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the rear wheels. All-wheel drive is available as an option across the board, which BMW refers to as its xDrive system.
Performance
No matter which engine you choose, you'll be impressed with the performance and power. The M340i trim is the most powerful of the bunch, boasting quicker acceleration and more raw power. However, even the base engine went from zero to 60 mph in just 5.6 seconds in speed testing, which is faster than most other models in the segment. The brake pedal is responsive and the steering feels precise.
The lower trim levels are also available with an M Sport package, which bundles a sport suspension with larger wheels and an aerodynamic body kit, as well as the Dynamic Handling package, which includes an adaptive suspension and a sport differential.
Interior
The cabin of the base 330i comes well-equipped with simulated leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, automatic climate control, and a sunroof. On the technology side, this model also boasts an 8.8-inch touch screen, a 10-speaker sound system, integrated navigation, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration. Options are bundled into packages, such as heated front seats, leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, and ambient interior lighting. You can also get an upgraded 16-speaker audio system and a digital instrument cluster.
Safety Features
Every 2022 3 Series comes with anti-lock brakes, a rearview camera, stability and traction control, and forward collision mitigation. The optional Driver Assistance package bundles blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, and parking sensors, while the Driver Assistance Professional package includes lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control.
