It's Easier Here.

2016 is the year of the Civic. The 2016 Civic Sedan is on sale in the U.S., the Type-R and the Civic Coupe are coming soon, and now we’ve got the Civic Hatchback to look forward to. How do they expect anyone to choose out of such an amazing lineup?

Honda Civic hatchback

Yesterday, Honda debuted their new Civic hatchback at the Geneva Auto Show. It’s been more than 10 years since Honda released a Honda Civic hatchback in the U.S., and we got it just in time for their 10th generation Honda Civic.

This hot hatch is sharp, low to the ground, and slightly arched forward like a predator waiting to pounce on its prey. We’re just praying this version hits our shores with an Si model. Then again, a Type-R is what we really want to see.

Coming soon

The Honda Civic hatchback will be released to Europe in early 2017, and exported to the United States soon after. Surprisingly, Honda says their design is meant to “challenge conventional European compact styling while staying true to the original Civic’s core values.” We say they should go ahead and drop it off state-side. If there’s anything Americans don’t mind disregarding, it’s compact vehicles.

Engine possibilities

We know it’s going to have one, we’re just not sure which. In the United States, the Civic sedan comes with two engine options: the 158-horsepower 2.0L base model and the 174-horsepower 1.5L turbo. Odds are, we’ll see a Civic hatchback with both options.

If we’re incredibly lucky, maybe we’ll see a Type-R Honda Hatchback. We doubt this will happen, since producing so many different models is pricey, but we can dream. A Honda Civic Hatchback with that turbocharged 2.0L VTEC engine is just a dream come true.
