Don’t Worry, The Maserati Alfieri Concept Car Is Still Happening

Earlier this year, a group of Russian fighter jets and helicopters flew dangerously close to the USS Donald Cook, a warship operating in the Baltic Sea at the time. Although the fighter jets were unarmed, their maneuver was a clear display of military hostility. Why might the Russian army do this?

The same reason car manufacturers flood auto shows with their latest concept cars: to beat their chests and say, “Look at our superior blah, blah, blah technology.”

Is it all hype?

Much like Russia’s needless display of military strength, car manufactures often create intentionally exaggerated – and in some cases, hideous – concept vehicles just to create a buzz. As the saying goes: there’s no such thing as bad publicity.

But in the case of the Maserati Alfieri – a concept car that doesn’t know the first thing about being hideous – we feel the need to reassure you. The Alfieri wasn’t created just to get people talking or to spook the competition. It’s Maserati’s next-generation sport-coupe, and it’s still happening.

The question is: when is the Maserati Alfieri coming out?

We called the Maserati Headquarters to find out, and here is what a representative told us, “It’s still in the works,” “Right now the focus is on the launch of the Levante, but once the dust settles we’ll be releasing more information on the Alfieri.”

Plenty of websites reported in 2014/2015 that Maserati would debut the Alfieri at the 2016 Geneva Auto Show, but instead, we saw the Levante. We want to believe that we’ll see the Alfieri at the 2017 Geneva Auto Show, but we don’t have any official information. Therefore, we cannot in good conscience give you a timeframe for its release.

We can only tell you that the Maserati Alfieri is still on its way. Car and Driver wrote in 2015 that it would have the same 3.0 twin-turbo V6 as the Quattroporte, and cost less than the GrandTurismo, but since they’re not citing any sources we would take it with a grain of salt.
