Rolls-Royce’s VISION NEXT 100 Concept Won’t Require a Chauffer

Somewhere above the 10^th floor of BMW’s Munich headquarters, a corporate vision building meeting sprouted the idea of BMW Vision Next 100 – a project that asked BMW, BMW Motorrad, Mini, and Rolls-Royce designers to tackle a unique problem: what will their cars look like in 100 years?

We feel bad for those designers. What they created is unquestionably a beautiful and exciting concept, but almost every “future concept” vehicle fails to capture what the future will actually look like. Take the Ford X-2000 for example.

So, with the caveat that Rolls-Royces probably won’t look anything like this in the year 2116, we give you the Rolls-Royce VISION NEXT 100.

The Rolls-Royce of the Future

It’s official, the future of luxury will be driverless – but not chauffer-less. The Rolls-Royce VISION NEXT 100 will feature a computerized chauffer that will cater to every need of its owner – apart from being a shoulder to cry on, or wearing one of those cool hats.

Inside the VISION NEXT 100 you’ll find a couch. It’s a really nice couch, though. We bet it’s made of the softest synthetic fabric of the future, with nano-technology cushions that can identify and make chiropractic adjustments at the drop of a hat.

Customizable Rolls-Royce

Perhaps the most exciting vison for Rolls-Royce’s future, is the ability to customize the shape of your vehicle. Of course, Rolls-Royce designers will have to approve of whatever their customers dream up. Otherwise, you’d have solid gold Oscar Meyer weenie-trucks rolling around sporting the spirit of ecstasy.

Personally, we’re holding out hope that a Rolls-Royce of the future will achieve thrust via anti-gravity. Forget rolling around on wheels – we’re ready to fly like Back to the Future promised we would. 100 years should be enough time, right?

This concept car is probably more like 25 or 30 years away. Autonomous cars already roam our streets, and we’d be willing to bet there are plenty of Rolls-Royce buyers who would prefer a driverless experience. We’ll have to see what happens, but if all we’ve done in 100 years is add a couch, remove the driver, and put Microsoft’s Watson in charge of navigating, we’ll be surprised.
