Volvo Teases Concept Estate Via Raincoat Raconteur

To paraphrase alt-grunge Seattle band Harvey Danger, this is the thrilling concept you’ve been waiting for.

Volvo has officially presented its third and final concept vehicle, thus completing the trilogy of concepts that are supposed to set a new direction for the company and bring balance to the automotive industry. As you might remember, Volvo released the Concept Coupe last August, and the XC Coupe Concept in January.

Interestingly, Volvo did not release these teaser images directly, opting instead for a trusted third-party in a sort of political-thriller backchannel sort of way.

The images were posted on Swedish raincoat maker Stutterheim’s website—classic Stutterheim—because Volvo has commissioned the company to make a high-quality cover for its new Concept Estate.

A Concept Estate is a European way of saying Shooting Brake which is a European way of saying wagon. This particular wagon appears to have two doors, and unlike the luminescently futuristic white of the XC Coupe Concept or the staid businessman silver of the Coupe Concept, the Concept Estate is a more rustic brown that belongs to the fjords and fother things that fsound fSwedish.

Stutterheim is an excellent choice to convey Volvo’s Scandinavian roots despite new Chinese ownership. Stutterheim’s products are hand-stitched by seamstresses in their home base of Stockholm, and every cover is made to order so if you want an exceptionally fine hand-stitched rubberized cotton cover for your S60 or XC90, they can do it.

Now that we have images of the third concept, what do you think of all three concepts? Do you see unity in their design? Which is your favorite? Stay tuned for more details on the Concept Estate official reveal.
