VIDEO: Designing A New Icon – The Porsche Mission E

Some of you may have seen Porsche debut the Mission E concept at last September’s International Motor Show in Germany, but if not, we’ll get you up to speed. The Mission E is Porsche’s pinewood derby car in the race for electric-vehicle dominance – all we can hope is that it’s as good as they’re claiming it will be.

When announced, the Mission E came with some very bold claims. First off, the production version will come with 600 horsepower. That power will carry it from 0-60mph in under 3.5 seconds, and past 120mph less than 12 seconds. The top speed will be roughly 150mph, and the Mission E will have a range of more than 300 miles on a single charge. But their most amazing claim, is that it will take less than 15 minutes for an 80% charge.

The interior

The video above gives us a good idea of what the Mission E’s interior will look like, and how it will function. Hand gesture and eye recognition software are just a few of the technologies we can expect to see in the Mission E by launch date.

How does the Mission E compare to other EVs?

Lets start with the basics. The Porsche Mission E claims to be the first electric sports car, but Tesla’s P90D on “Ludicrous” mode – which goes 0-60mph in 2.85 seconds – would beg to differ. But knowing Porsche, they’ll have an upgraded model of the Mission E ready to take on Tesla’s quickest creation by the time they launch their vehicle.

The real difference between the Mission E and its competitors will be the charge time. Currently, with Tesla’s quickest charging time, it takes roughly an hour to charge the vehicle. The Mission E is claiming a charge time of under 15 minutes. That’s a big difference.

We’ll have to wait until 2020 to see how the Mission E really compares to other vehicles. All we can say for sure is that this Porsche is anything but an eye-sore.
