2019 dodge charger

Plus, it’s shaving off nearly 500 lbs. The next version of the Dodge Charger isn’t expected to be released until around 2019, but we’ve got some insider-information about what we can expect to see. Here’s what we know:

The new Dodge Charger will be built on the same platform as the Alpha Romeo Giulia, a small four-door sedan poised to take on the BMW 3-Series. This frame will shed nearly 500 lbs. off the new Charger, which – according to Autoweek.com – will be powered by the same 300 horsepower twin-turbo inline-four cylinder as the 2018 Jeep Wrangler. Less weight and more power sounds like good news to us.

We also have an idea of what the Dodge Charger is going to look like. It’s 1999. Sorry, we mean it’s going to resemble a Charger concept created in 1999, called the Dodge Charger R/T concept.

Hopefully it won’t look exactly like that, though. What you’re seeing is more like a first draft. It’s not perfect, but we like it. The current Charger is very boxy, and this concept looks sleeker and more aerodynamic. It’s not quite as tall as the current Charger and it’s definitely curvier. No doubt Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is trying to minimize the Charger’s wind-resistance and weight to help stretch out the gas tank.

Which is a welcome change. Say what you will about the loss of V-8 and V-6 engines – we think it’s a good thing. 300-horsepower and good gas mileage sounds better to us anyway. Sure, they won’t sound like a traditional muscle car, but they’ll drive every bit like one.

We’ve all got to shift towards the future of driving, not stay stuck in 2nd gear.
